Octavia Peppertorch

Octavia Peppertorch, the matriarch of the family, was a woman of grace and resolve. She was known for her impeccable taste in art and fashion, often setting trends within elite circles. Outside of her duties as a Peppertorch, she found joy in writing children’s literature. She penned an anthology of children’s poems. Her most beloved is printed below.

"Listen Carefully"

by Octavia Peppertorch

Hush, hush, lend me your ear,
A tale to tell, for all to hear.

First, the red dog barked so loud,
A warning wrapped within the sound.

Second, the baby cooed so sweet,
A whispered tune, a soft heartbeat.

Last, the stag with silver horns,
Sang a song of fate forewarned.

Four other friends all line up next,
Listen close, and heed my text.

Octavia Peppertorch had a way with words. Her favorite was a little rhyme about a red dog, a baby, and a stag—one she told her children again and again. Even now, if you listen carefully, you might hear those familiar characters whispering through the halls. Their voices still carry meaning— if you come across them, give them a hug for Octavia, and pay attention to what they say, and how often they say it.
